House System

The House system evolved as a means of providing longitudinal mentoring and extensive leadership opportunities for all boys at Terrace. It is integral to the Pastoral Care program at the College which enables students and House Tutors to establish a relationship of trust, support and friendship.

Students stay with this same House Group, House Tutor and House Dean for the duration of their time at Terrace, ensuring a sense of belonging. A student's House Tutor is the first and central link to many College activities, events and communications. Year 5,8 are welcomed into the College by a Year 12 ‘Big Brother’, who they meet every morning and afternoon in their tutor group.

The College is divided into nine house groups of around 140 students. Each House is coordinated by a House Dean and has a crest, colour and motto.

Eight of the nine Houses are named after significant people or families associated with the College. The ninth House, Xavier is named after the former Queensland Province.

The vision for the House system at Terrace has at its core the touchstones of Inclusive Community, Justice and Solidarity, Gospel Spirituality and Liberating Education and the Mission of College.

Listed below are the goals of our Vertical House system:

House Deans will be the facilitators of the vision in their respective Houses. With the House Tutors they will work towards bringing life to the House system.
