Student Leadership

As a community, Gregory Terrace collectively acknowledges that “to whom much is given, much can be expected”; and consequently, our College takes its role among Catholic schools in Australia, humbly and seriously. In the spirit of Edmund Rice, we believe that one school, just like one man, can make a difference.
In this spirit, Gregory Terrace challenges all its students to understand and demonstrate leadership, in their own way. Leadership is a renowned quality of Terracians and many of our students have and continue to show, the qualities of presence, compassion, care, service, courage and liberation, that our definition of leadership calls for – in very powerful ways.
More information on student leadership and the framework we promote can be understood in the attachment, “the leader’s capabilities”. While not every student will be nominally recognised as a leader of either the College or a College activity, we instill a sense of leadership and responsibility in all of our students – especially our Senior cohort, which haso custody over the traditions of the College, during their Senior year.
Core dimensions of Student Leadership:
- Envision ways in which they could develop authentic leadership.
- Enlist their support in shaping and pursuing exactly how to perform.
- Work to embody the principles and behaviour you wish others to model.
- Help them understand how to be better volunteers and empower them with the information, decision making authority and autonomy to do so.
- Evaluate the vision, your values and performance and their progress.
- Constantly and consistently encourage them to sustain the journey, to grow and to become a person of Words (Presence), Actions (Compassion) and Character (Liberation).
