Track & Field

Track and Field is one of the oldest sports contested between the GPS Colleges and allows for involvement and individual competition across various sports.
As well as being one of the oldest GPS sports, Track and Field events are among the oldest of all sporting competitions. Track and Field embraces a wide variety of disciplines and athletic contests around the general activities of running, jumping and throwing – the natural and universal forms of human physical expression – and are recognised generally under the umbrella sport of “athletics”.
Track events include competitions such as the 100m and 200m sprints, middle distance races such as the 800m and 1500m, long distance events such as the 5000m, hurdles and relays. Field events comprise competitions such as long jump, high jump, shot put, discuss and javelin.
The Terrace Track and Field program has been steadily improved in recent times with a focus on technique improvement and regular competition. Terrace has been known to compete “above its weight” in Track and Field competitions and aims to continue to improve and compete and develop a sense of improvement and enjoyment in athletes.
Although Track and Field is a series of individual competitions, Terrace takes a “team approach” to its preparation with a healthy sense of competition developed between our athletes in a supportive squad and team atmosphere.
Participation in Track and Field competitions is available to Primary and High School Terracians, by way of the CIC and GPS competitions. The GPS Track and Field Carnival, coming at the end of the school year, is a highlight and something of a culmination of the GPS sporting year, and gives students a great opportunity to test themselves in a thrilling forum of great atmosphere.
