Business & Technology
Welcome to the Faculty of Business and Technology. We are a diverse faculty, teaching Accounting, Business Education, Graphics, Technical Studies, Industrial Technology and Design (INTAD) including Manufacturing (Furnishings), Information Communication Technology Eductaion (ICTE) and Information Processing and Technology (IPT) – all of which provide skill sets that have great practical utility, economic value and significance in today’s society.
In this spirit, each of the subject areas is delivered to include real world experiences to complement the theoretical aspects of the courses. Our subject co-ordinators ensure that the units are planned such that students are able to work with the appropriate resources and technologies to facilitate their learning.

Subject offerings include:
Accounting is an information system that provides financial and other information for making and evaluating decisions about the allocation of resources. It is a system of recording, reporting, analysing, and interpreting the financial information of an accounting entity. This information is used to help evaluate performance, to facilitate decision making and control, and to report on the operation of an organisation from internal and external perspectives. The study of accounting enables students to understand the processes involved. This course is designed, not only to provide a foundation in the discipline of accounting, but also to prepare students for further education, training and employment. Completion of this course will provide many valuable and practical skills and should enable students to participate more effectively and responsibly in a changing business environment.

Business Studies encompasses both the theoretical and practical aspects of business and management. Students who complete this course will develop skills in the areas of bookkeeping, research, analysis, problem-solving, decision making and communication. Relevant business case studies and investigations help students to understand this complex world that we live in. The role of rewards and entrepreneurship is recognised as a powerful influence in business success. Our students are consumers who one day also may be employees, employers, self-employed and/or producers who will engage in the business activities to produce, market and deliver a range of goods and services. It is hoped that our students will also become savers and investors. By the end of their two years of study, our students emerge as more informed citizens regarding the different facets of their participation in the global economy.

The Graphics course of study draws upon the fundamental principles of graphical communication and provides an opportunity for students to gain an understanding across a broad spectrum of applications. Principles are developed within a foundation unit and then further applied through contextual units, which typically focus on Production Graphics, Business Graphics and Built Environment. Graphics is a challenging subject that promotes students' personal pride and esteem. Graphics provides the opportunity to express simple and complex information through visual imagery and representations, encouraging clearer and more efficient communication. The ability to communicate effectively is an essential requirement in every field. Graphics is considered an essential tool for all graphics design fields. The study has developed from technical drawing through art and animation into video and television, which are vital components in many professions and vocations.

Industrial Technology and Design (INTAD)
The subject area of INTAD (previously known as Manual Arts) fits into the Queensland school curriculum under the nationally-agreed Key Learning Area of Technology, and stems from the Industrial Technology and Design syllabus. Courses of study in Industrial Technology and Design contribute to the development of life skills that assist students in becoming lifelong learners, by providing opportunities to participate in purposeful activities that prepare them for a variety of vocations and life roles. Students develop confidence and expertise in the subject area while also extending their personal interests. Work Education also is included, and involves learning for work, learning about work and understanding the nature of work.
Coordinator: Mr Jamie Burgess
The Technology courses offered at Gregory Terrace incorporate Primary ICT, Middle School ICTE and the Year 11 and 12 Senior School subject of IPT. Our students receive tutelage in technology from a young age to advance their learning habits and study skills generally. Technology is a pervasive and powerful force and our students studies in these disciplines are tailored to give practical and important skills that will aid in the understanding and use of technology as well as provide foundation for further advanced studies and vocational requirements. Studies in the Technology subjects both draw upon and are applied to diverse fields of study.
