Technology
The Technology courses offered at Gregory Terrace incorporate Primary ICT, Middle School ICTE and the Year 11 and 12 Senior School subject of IPT. Our students receive tutelage in technology from a young age to advance their learning habits and study skills generally.
Our Information Communication and Technology and Information Processing and Technology courses are becoming increasingly significant and important in a modern world that is increasingly reliant on technology for its operation and efficient function.
Technology is a pervasive and powerful force and our students’ studies in these disciplines are tailored to give practical and important skills that will aid in the understanding and use of technology as well as provide foundation for further advanced studies and vocational requirements.
Studies in the Technology subjects both draw upon and are applied to diverse fields of study. The ICTE covers a range of contemporary topics in depth; including Animation, Web Weaving, Databases, Virtual Environments, Video Games and Robotics. While our senior IPT course examines the social and ethical uses of technology. It deals with the ways in which information is gathered, structured, represented, stored, accessed, manipulated and communicated. There is also an examination of information processing problems and solutions with an emphasis on system development rather than mere application usage.

Coordinator - Technology
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are an all encompassing and pervasive discipline. In the Lower Middle School, ICT is currently two lessons a cycle with a specialist teacher. The program is negotiated with the normal class teacher team to allow aspects of class work that naturally contain ICT components to be covered with rigour.
Assessment usually corresponds with items being done in class - the ICT teacher assesses in terms of ICTs and their effective use, the class teacher on presentation and content.
ICTE in Year 8
All Year 8s have two periods per cycle dedicated to ICTE. These lessons are conducted with a specialist teacher and encompass a number of key disciplines that are re-visted as part of the spiral curriculum in Years 9 and 10.
Term 1 Students are reminded of Publishing and Presenting, Term 2 Spreadsheets, Term 3 is introductory Web Publishing and Term 4 is simple Game Making.
ICTE in Years 9 and 10
In Years 8 and 9, students may choose an elective subject called ICTE. This subject occupies seven periods per cycle and allows coverage of a range of contemporary ICT topics in depth; including Animation, Web Weaving, Databases, Virtual Environments, Video Games and Robotics.
2009 was the first year ICTE was offered to Year 9 students and we have had strong cohorts of students electing this subject since then. It now feeds into IPT in the senior school.

Senior School IPT (Years 11 and 12)
Information Processing and Technology touches many aspects of modern human life, and finds itself drawing upon and being applied to diverse fields of study. The widespread and rapidly increasing use of computers and information processing demands investigation of the social and ethical implications of this use.
Information Processing and Technology is a complex intellectual discipline which deals with SQL and Relational Information Systems, Algorithms and Software Programming, Human-Computer Interaction and Social and Ethical Implications of Information and Communications Technologies. The course emphasis is on system development rather than the mere use of application packages.
The course deals with the ways in which information is gathered, structured, represented, stored, accessed, manipulated and communicated. There also is an examination of information processing problems and solutions.
Terrace's Work Program details what is covered when and further internal faculty notes and resources are available to our students.
