Chapel Choir
Song and music has historically been a central part of Terrace Culture and singing has been cultivated and embraced everywhere from sporting fields and arenas with the stirring strains of “Terrace to the Fore”, to our Campus Ministry Masses and special events – especially those in the wonderful acoustic environment of the Chapel of the Holy Family.
More recently, Terrace has formalised the Chapel Choir, which provides another wonderful cultural opportunity for our young men to regularly perform and express themselves. The Chapel Choir is an extension ensemble and membership is by audition.
The Chapel Choir performs at all major College occasions as well as for the wider community. Rehearsals are organised and regular and utilise our excellent musical, cultural and performance facilities as well as the Chapel.
At Terrace we promote a well-rounded education and encourage our students to be involved in a wide range of activities. The synthesis of culture and sport was powerfully expressed in a collaboration between the Chapel Choir and Terrace Rugby on the production and recording of the Brave and Game variation on the arrangement of the school song.
One of the highlights of the Cultural Program in recent years was the 2011 Tour of Italy by the Chapel Choir. Thirty young Terrace singers were afforded this rare chance, in which they performed at many historical sites, culminating in an unforgettable presentation at St Peter’s Basilica – a moment of great spiritual and performance significance for our young men and College.
Such a tour will resound in the memory of those who participated and the great reception and response our Choir has received on this tour and elsewhere, has opened the door for future tours and opportunities.
The Chapel Choir is one of three singing choirs available to our students at Terrace, which also includes the Terrace Singers and Middle School Singers. Our Choirs attract a diverse range of students participating in a wide variety of activities across the College. More information on these choirs as well as music performance groups can be accessed on the Music ensembles page.
