Principal's Message Term 2 Week 3 | Dr Michael Carroll
Dear members of the Terrace Family,
Welcome to Week 3 and the realisation that we are already a third of the way through Term 2. The shorter weeks we are experiencing can disrupt normal routines, but the students must remain focused on their studies while still enjoying the public holidays.
This Friday, the College community comes together to celebrate Mass and mark the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice. As a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition, it is critical that we continue to recognise and celebrate our connection to Edmund Rice and the Christian Brothers. As Terrace inches closer to our 150th year, it is also important that we remember and acknowledge the extraordinary contributions the Christian Brothers have made to Terrace over the last 149 years. From the work of early pioneering Christian Brothers like Brothers Treacy and Barrett to Brothers Buckley, White and Magee, who led our Terrace Family so magnificently in more recent years, we say ‘thank you’. So many members of the Terrace Family, myself included, are who we are and where we are because of the dedication and education provided by the Christian Brothers. On behalf of the Terrace Family, I thank the many Christian Brothers who have dedicated their lives to enacting the Charism of Edmund Rice.
Another event of note on the College calendar this week is the TLG Years 5-8 Morning Tea to be held at Victoria Park. Once again, this is a sold-out event and promises to be a wonderful morning celebrating friendship and community. As has become a tradition in recent years, the College Captain’s mother will be the keynote speaker at the event and I look forward to listening to Dr Nicole White’s reflections. I would like to thank the TLG, particularly the organising committee, for their great work coordinating this event.
This weekend, we will host BGS at Tennyson in the GPS Spirit of Fellowship Round and the GTOBA Football Round. It should be an excellent day, and I am sure we will have strong support for our footballers and tennis players.
The students involved in the 2024 College Musical The Wiz have been working very hard since late last year. Final rehearsals are scheduled for this weekend, with Opening Night on Wednesday 8 May and further performances on Thursday 9 May, Friday 10 May and Saturday 11 May. Booking details for the show can be found on the College website (link here).
I would also like to draw the Terrace Family’s attention to an upcoming event being sponsored by the charity, Hearts in Rugby Union to help raise funds to support individuals who have suffered life-changing injuries playing rugby. This cause is important to the Terrace community and I would encourage your support.
Details of the Charity lunch can be found here: https://www.heartsinrugbyunion.com.au/events/partner-events/queensland-reds-v-fijian-druan-luncheon
If you would like to support Hearts in Rugby Union by purchasing a raffle ticket, details are available via the link below:

Finally this week, as Damien Fall commences his Professional Renewal Leave at the end of this week, several staffing changes have recently been communicated to the Terrace Community via SPIRE (the College App). Please refer to this communication for a full list of staff and class changes for Term 2.
On behalf of the Terrace Family, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish Damien Fall all the best for his upcoming leave.
Have a great week.
God Bless.
Dr Michael Carroll
