May: The Month of Mary | Miss Lizzy Readford
Embracing Gratitude, Hope, and Humility
As we step into May, the Month of Mary, let's journey through this time by reflecting on the words of the Hail Mary prayer. Each stanza of this prayer offers insights into Mary's virtues and relationship with God, guiding us to embrace gratitude, hope, and humility.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Gratitude and Grace
Pope Francis began 2024 by inviting us to dedicate this year to Mary, the Mother of God. He assures us that Mary knows our hearts intimately, always interceding for us to experience God's overflowing grace (Francis, 2024). As we reflect on Mary's grace-filled life (Lk 1:28-38; cf. Rom 1:5.), we are reminded to be grateful for the countless blessings God bestows upon us each day.
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Hope and Blessings
May is adorned with significant Marian feasts like Our Lady, Queen of Apostles (1 May), Our Lady of Fatima (13 May), and the Visitation (31 May). These feasts celebrate Mary's central role in salvation history and the blessings she brings into our lives through her unwavering devotion to Jesus (Cf. LG 56; LG 63; cf. Jn 19:26-27; Rom 8:29; Rev 12:17.). As we celebrate these feasts, we are filled with hope, knowing that Mary's intercession brings us closer to Jesus, the source of all blessings.
Embracing Humility in Term 2
As we enter Term 2, humility stands at the forefront of our journey as Gentlemen of Terrace. 'Carrying our crest' is not merely a symbol but a commitment to walk humbly with purpose and compassion. Inspired by Mary's boundless love and compassion for all, the Gentlemen of Terrace and the wider Terrace Family are encouraged to embody the scriptural call to "spur one another on toward love and good deeds" (Heb. 10:24). We strive to extend our hands to the isolated and marginalised, reflecting Mary's compassionate heart in our actions and interactions (Lk 2:19).
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
As we navigate Term 2 and the Year of Mary, let's wear our crest as a symbol and a commitment to humility, gratitude, and hope. This emblem reminds us of our commitment to serve God, our community, and each other. As a Terrace Family, let's actively seek opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of those we encounter, echoing Mary's love and grace (LG 61).
Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
May Mary inspire and bless us throughout May, illuminating our path with human kindness and heartfelt compassion.
