Principal's Message Term 2 Week 4 | Dr Michael Carroll
Dear members of the Terrace Family,
I trust that you and your family enjoyed the long weekend. Some may argue that a long weekend pushes five days of work into four, but the change in routine is always welcomed.
This week is a significant one for the College's Cultural program with The Wiz, our 2024 Senior Musical, premiering on Wednesday evening. The Terrace and All Hallows' students involved in the production will be performing to sell-out audiences across the four-night season. The reviews have been very positive, and I look forward to seeing our talented students in action on Saturday night. I congratulate all the staff, parents and students who have worked hard for many months preparing for the show. Congratulations, and well done.
On Wednesday, we hosted our annual Careers Expo. It was fantastic to see so many students from a wide range of year levels taking advantage of the University displays and engaging in the various presentations on offer across the afternoon. I thank our Career Counsellor, Ms Natalie Twine, and the Gregory Terrace Old Boys' Association for their efforts in organising this event. The opportunity to listen to parents and past students sharing personal experiences in various professions and occupations is significant, and our students are fortunate to have access to such expertise. Well done to all involved.
This weekend, we celebrate Mother's Day. At Terrace, we begin this celebration with the Year 9 Mother's Day breakfast at Waterford, a special event for our Year 9 students and their mothers/mother figures. To all the mothers and mother figures in the Terrace Family, thank you for the support and dedication you share with your sons. You offer unconditional love and provide the 'glue' critical to the Terrace Family's success. As part of our 150-year celebrations in 2025, we are planning an acknowledgement and tribute to the 'Women of Terrace', which will be one of the highlights of our celebrations. I wish all our mothers a wonderful Mother's Day this Sunday.
Looking ahead, we will celebrate Literature Week at Terrace next week with various planned events and activities. The 2024 GPS Cross Country Championships will also be held next week, and I take this opportunity to wish all our runners the very best as they traverse the hills of Limestone Park.
I would also like to draw your attention to the 2024 College Open Day, which will be held next Tuesday 14 May, from 3.30 pm – 6.00 pm. This event is always extraordinary, allowing the Terrace Family to proudly showcase all that Terrace offers. I look forward to seeing many of you at Terrace next Tuesday and encourage you to come and see what your son is doing in his subjects and co-curricular activities.
Finally, I have previously written about the PwC Survey that the College has commissioned to better understand our community's demographics concerning school fees. There has been a slight delay in the planned launch of the survey, but I will write to you on Monday 13 May, with further details and a link to the survey. I thank you in advance for your support of this important survey.
Have a great week.
God Bless.
