The Weekly Wrap

Cricket Wrap

Round 3 of GPS Cricket saw the long-standing rivalry of Terrace and Nudgee recommence in what was a fantastic display of schoolboy Cricket at both Tennyson and Nudgee College. Terrace also played a number of supplementary matches against Toowoomba Grammar School, St Laurence’s College, Anglican Church Grammar School and Brisbane Grammar School, in what was another great weekend on and off the field for the Cricket program.

Terrace had an exceptional day in terms of results, winning 23 of 31 matches against Nudgee College. Although the program doesn’t base itself on results, this result against a strong sporting college highlights the dedication and commitment of all the players, coaches, managers and parent groups in the Terrace Cricket community. Including the supplementary matches, Terrace won a total of 63% of matches played on Saturday, which is a great result considering the majority of matches in the supplementary draw were played against a higher graded team.

Only three weeks into the 2019 Season and it is encouraging to see the skills developed during the Term 4 preseason program as well as the holiday training clinics transferring into match play, with a number of fantastic individual performances in all age groups over the weekend. Most pleasing from a program point of view is seeing students achieving their individual best.

This weekend sees half of the program play Brisbane State High School, in what are traditionally tough matches for the A-B program. Once again, a number of supplementary matches will be played, giving all teams cricketing opportunities. The program looks forward to all teams playing in the Terrace Way this Saturday - hard but fair.

Rowing Wrap

NC Regatta I 23 February I Wyaralong

The GPS Rowing Regatta season recommences this weekend after a short hiatus with Nudgee College hosting this week's regatta as we enter the final month of the 2019 Season. It will be quite exciting to see how each Terrace crew performs in their first race after the two week training block.

• Remember all race results are posted immediately after each race on the Rowing Queensland website (https://qld.rowingmanager.com) under '2019 Regatta Calendar'.
• All boys are required back at Tennyson for Boat Unloading by 2.30pm

Friendly Reminder

• Regatta Car Parking:
The host school of each GPS Regatta is responsible for car parking duties including collection of the $5/car fee. Please ensure you have cash ready to pay at the collection point.

Supporters of Terrace Rowing

As we approach the Head of the River Regatta, your support of the races at each lead up regatta is important, especially for our rowers in the Open Age Group. Could we please ensure all boys stay behind to support the older boys as they have done in the previous years. The unique nature of being a club is that all boys support each other, no matter what age group they are in.

Speed Boat driver

Each school is tasked to provide a speed boat driver(s) for each regatta. If you can assist please contact me by email or mobile. It is a great chance to be up close to the crews racing.

Head of the River Dinner and Awards Night

To celebrate 65 years of Terrace Rowing, the Head of the River Dinner and Awards Night will be held this year at the Royal International Convention Centre at the RNA Showgrounds on 16 March. It promises to be a very enjoyable evening with a number of special guests and auction prizes. A formal invitation will be available shortly via College Events to enable you to purchase your tickets.

Terrow Monthly Meeting

The next Terrow monthly meeting will be held this Tuesday, 19 February at the main school staff room located adjacent to the Victoria Street main entrance at 6pm.

Volleyball Wrap

Round 2 saw Terrace Volleyball heading to BBC. As expected, BBC were very strong on their home courts and despite a number of matches requiring a deciding third set, many teams struggled to close out games.

The 7As started both sets strongly against a very consistent BBC team, but struggled to control some tough serves and went down 2-0. Despite narrowly dropping the first set, the 8As forced a third set only to lose by a mere couple of points. Nicholas Wilson-Boyd was named MVP for his control of the back court. After a shaky start, the 9As also headed to a third set, and were down 13-10 until EJ Luafalealo went back to serve aces that helped clinch the win 15-13. The 10As were in for a hotly contested match with plenty of energy, and despite huge attacks from Benjamin Chatwood, were unable to close out the game in the third. Archie Hanson helped the 11As pull through in the third set to win 2-1. The 2nd VI battled through to a third set after coming from behind to win the second set. However, they were unable to close out the match.

Finally, despite the mammoth support from the Red and Black Army, the 1st VI went down 3-0 to a strong BBC team. The Firsts matched BBC point for point during the first two sets, but some errors crept in during the third set. This match only gives the Firsts motivation to continue to work hard and improve throughout the season. James Sheehan was named MVP for his strong presence on the net. We eagerly await Round 3 and look to improve on these results next weekend when we take on State High.
