Dean of Students | Mr Damien Cuddihy

Many thanks to those parents who attended the Parent/Mentor meetings last week. Developing positive relationships within our community is central to the 'Atmosphere of Care' philosophy at the College. I hope that you found this opportunity to share information about your son fruitful.

On Wednesday evening, we held the annual Year 8 Father/Son evening at the College. Whilst media attention often feasts on the reality that some famous sportsmen and celebrities fall short of being good ‘role-models’ to our boys, we are confident that some of the best role models are much closer to home. I hope all those involved walked away feeling reassured that your sons are able to speak up and share insights about their life.

A major focus at the College this week has been raising awareness of the route students are required to take when walking to the Fortitude Valley train station. The practice of running across St Paul’s Terrace and Gipps Street is very dangerous. All students accessing the immediate vicinity of the Valley station must cross St Paul's Terrace by using the pedestrian crossing at the ‘Five Ways’.

The Inter-House Swimming Carnival last week was reflective of everything that is good about the House system at Terrace. Whilst to the untrained eye, the day can look somewhat chaotic, the Seniors were brilliant in running the activities within their Houses. On numerous occasions, various interactions brought a smile to my face. Seniors swimming behind Year 5s who were worried about making the 50m, buddies walking back to the College together after the carnival having a chat or just the hype generated around the relays was most pleasing. Congratulations to Barrett House for winning the carnival and to Magee and Kearney for the minor places. Our next major House event is the Inter-House Cross Country in Week 2 of Term 2.
