Walk for Edmund | Mr Brendan Ganley, Program Leader
Lent is a time of pause, reflection, and being on the journey with Jesus. Our journey with Jesus during Lent is about how we can mirror the sacrifice he made for us. For our students, it might not be about a sacrifice, as in forgoing something, but it is a sacrifice in our time for someone else. What can we do for someone else during this time of Lent? Can it be the help we give, the time we share with someone or making someone else's time better by doing something for them?
During Lent, our Years 5 and 6 students participate in the Walk for Edmund project. This project connects with Edmund Rice Foundation Australia. The Edmund Rice Foundation is an international aid organisation that supports sustainable community-based education programs in developing countries and projects for marginalised and disadvantaged groups in Australia. Our project supports children connected to the Edmund Rice Centre (ERC) in Nairobi, Kenya. Students and families across Years 5 and 6 are donating to our Lent project with 'doing something for someone else' in mind. The support to the ERC in Nairobi provides education for children living with disabilities within the vulnerable communities in the informal settlement of Kibera.
The project's culmination will be our Years 5 and 6 students embarking on a walk around Barrambin on the final day of Term 1 to symbolise our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Nairobi. At different stations around Barrambin, Year 6 students will lead reflection and conversation around how we may see the face of Jesus and how our support is helping each other.
We are very grateful for the support and donations so far from our Years 5 and 6 families. There is still an opportunity for our families to donate to our Walk for Edmund project via the link sent to families. Donations from the wider Terrace community are also welcome.
To donate, families are asked to click here and follow the prompts.
