Years 5 and 6 Update | Mr Brendan Ganley
Welcome to Term 4 and to a time of transition for both our Years 5 and 6 students.
Last Wednesday night, we welcomed our newest members to the College at the Year 5 2025 Orientation Night. This was such an amazing night to meet our new students and their families, who will be a part of the Terrace story and journey. We look forward to seeing these boys don the red and black next year.
Our current Year 5 students will be moving on from their first year of Terrace and into their final year of primary school. It has been a massive year for Year 5, that has flown by incredibly quickly.
For our Year 6 students, Term 4 is all about the transition from primary to secondary school. Although our students only move locations around the College, it is still a significant step in their schooling journey. The Year 6 Retreat program this term has focused on the journey up until this point, encompassing everything that has occurred and everything our students have accomplished from Prep to Year 6. Rotations focused on the core values of the College – knowledge, wisdom and humility. It is so important for our students to recognise the past and look forward to where they are now moving into secondary school.
Throughout Term 4, students in Year 6 embark on their yearly camp/outdoor education experience. Our students spend three nights and four days at Camp Maroon. Like our Retreat, there is a core focus on transitioning to Year 7, and what that next year will look like. Students are introduced to new scenarios, classrooms, and processes within a campus with which they are already very familiar.
Our formation lessons this week focused on internet safety. We had a fantastic presentation from Mr Brett Lee from Internet Safety Education, who delved into the importance of making the right choices when online and being aware of who is online. Students have also followed up on these concepts in class throughout the week. The internet is a world we cannot see, and we need our students and families to be safe and take the time to make the right decisions. Key messages from Brett revolved around data permanency and being respectful and aware online. Another crucial takeaway was the importance of safety and diligence not only for ourselves but for our family, friends, and members of our community.
