Principal's Message Term 4 Week 7 | Dr Michael Carroll
Dear members of the Terrace Family,
Welcome to Week 7, and importantly, Valedictory Week for our Year 12 students. This cohort of Terracians have been fine ambassadors for Terrace over many years, and in 2024 they have led the College with distinction. They have shown great spirit across many aspects of College life, and have been outstanding role models for our younger students. Led by College Captain Tom White, and Vice Captains Finlay Casey-Ryan, Jack Curtain, Charlie Gaspar and Max Van Balen, the Year 12 cohort has epitomised what it is to be a Gentleman of Terrace. They have done all of the little things well and upheld the traditions of our rich history. Living up to the words of their motto, they have truly Carried the Crest.
Today, we have had the opportunity to say ‘thank you and good luck’ to our Year 12 students at the Valedictory/Farewell Assembly in what is a fitting tribute to these fine young men. Students, parents and staff offered a vote of thanks to the Year 12 cohort and congratulated them on their contributions and successes at the College.
Tonight, the Year 12 students and their families will celebrate with the Valedictory Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral, followed by a Valedictory Dinner at the RNA. Both are special occasions and provide an opportunity to celebrate our most recent Old Boys on a more personal level.
This year, another 245 Year 12 students will join the ranks of over 18,000 Terrace Old Boys. There will also be 178 families finishing their time at Terrace, many of whom have been a part of the Terrace Family for over 15 years. I offer my special congratulations to the Cross Family on their 19 continuous years of association with the College. To all our departing families, thank you for all that you have done for your sons over the years and for the valuable contributions you have made to Terrace in that time. Please remember that just because your sons are leaving the College does not mean your connection finishes. You will always be part of the Terrace Family and are welcome to join Terrace events in the years ahead. This message is particularly relevant as we approach our 150-year celebrations in 2025, when we hope to connect with many of our past Terrace families. I wish all of our Year 12 students and their families the very best in the future.
Returning to more operational issues, it must be noted that the remainder of the students in Years 5-11 commence exams next week. The students must remain focused on their studies over the coming weeks to ensure that the final results for 2024 are the best that they can be. Keep up the good work, and remember how important it is to finish well.
Have a great week.
God Bless.
