Principal's Message Term 4 Week 4 | Dr Michael Carroll
Dear members of the Terrace Family,
Welcome to Week 4 of the term – a particularly important one for our Year 12 students as they commence their external exams. The well wishes of all the Terrace Family are with the boys across the next three weeks as they undertake these exams.
Last Friday, our Track and Field athletes competed valiantly at the 2024 GPS Track and Field Championships. Our Junior team finished a very creditable 5th whilst our Senior Team toiled hard and finished in 8th place. There were many outstanding performances across the day. Special congratulations must go to Year 5 student, Anton Mugaba for his outstanding performance in breaking the GPS record in the Under 10 100m, and to Year 12 student Remy Tollenaere for his win in the Open 400m Hurdles. Other Junior team members to perform well on the day include Billy Isarabhakdi, George Green, Edward Kerwin, Hugo Schodel, Donnie Wang, Julius Demetrovics, Aston Mahogany, Max Chambers, and Tom Hyde. Cooper Kerswell and Ben Hooper also achieved great results in their Senior events. Congratulations to all our athletes and coaches for a good season.
The co-curricular focus now shifts to Term 1 2025, with our Rowing, Cricket, and Volleyball programs commencing their preseason training programs. Yet again, Terrace students show a strong uptake in all these activities. Good luck to all involved.
This Friday, we celebrate International School Staff Day. At Terrace, we are extraordinarily fortunate to have such high-quality and dedicated staff, both teaching and non-teaching. The success of so much that happens at Terrace hinges on the expertise and dedication of all our Terrace staff. I often reference Br Marcellin Flynn, an academic researcher, who suggests that staff working in Catholic schools have a vocation, and I genuinely believe that this is the case at Terrace. Whether it is a teacher in a Year 8 Maths class, a coach, a staff member in Reception, or a member of our Maintenance team, the staff play such a pivotal role in shaping Terrace and, most importantly, the Gentlemen of Terrace. I take this opportunity to thank all of the Terrace staff for everything you do, and for the care and support you demonstrate daily.
Looking forward to next week, the external exams enter their second week, and we continue to send our best wishes to the Year 12 cohort. Next Friday, the College and the GTOBA will also host our annual Vintage Terracians' Morning Tea. This is always a special day, and I look forward to sharing more details in my Touchstone article next week.
Finally this week, I again ask parents for their support when driving near the school, particularly on Rogers Street. I ask that you avoid double-parking and doing U-turns in the streets near the College as it is dangerous and places our students at risk. Please be considerate of others in this very important matter.
Have a great week.
God Bless.
