Reidy Rough Night In | Mr Michael Wooldridge
For over a decade, Reidy House has partnered with Brisbane Youth Service, our designated House Friendship Group. Since its inception in 1977, Brisbane Youth Service has been dedicated to providing outreach, referrals and ongoing support to disadvantaged and homeless youth across the inner city of Brisbane.
On Friday 25 October, 20 Reidy House students from Years 7, 8, and 11 took on the 'Reidy Rough Night In' challenge. This event invited students to ‘rough it’ for a night, with limited access to food, technology and outdoor sleeping arrangements at the Waterford Campus breakout area. Through this experience, students gained a firsthand understanding of just a snippet of the difficulties many young people in our community face daily, fostering a deeper sense of empathy towards this prevalent issue. Each participant approached the night positively, embracing the experience and its challenges.
A special thank you goes to Ms Laura Watson from Brisbane Youth Service for joining us and sharing insights into the organisation’s work. Laura’s guidance prepared students for their Rough Night In by highlighting key thoughts and considerations for the experience. We also thank Mr Zach Woodward from the College Identity Team for facilitating the event.
As part of the Rough Night In initiative, students were encouraged to raise funds in support of Brisbane Youth Service. To date, they have collectively raised over $1000 – a remarkable contribution to this valuable community service.
Reidy House is proud of its longstanding partnership with Brisbane Youth Service, and we look forward to continuing our support in 2025. Congratulations to the young men of Reidy House for their resilience and empathy during this experience. Together, they continue to raise awareness for youth homelessness in our community and offer meaningful financial support to Brisbane Youth Service’s vital mission.
Well done gentlemen!
